Understanding the Roulette Table Layout

Because people think that Roulette is all about betting a number or color, they get confused when they see the layout on the table, not realizing that there are plenty of possible wagers you can make.

To play the game right, you need to know exactly what the Roulette table layout is about. The layout, constitutes the betting sections, and is divided into two parts, the inside and outside bets. At the top you will see a zero or double zero, indicating whether it is an American or European wheel.

Roulette Inside Bets

The Roulette inside bets are the ones below the zero / double zero header. They are arranged into 12 rows with three numbers in each and in three columns. Thus, in row one are the numbers 1, 2, 3, below it 4, 5, 6 and so on. While the zeros are in green, the numbers match those on the wheel.

The inside bets you can make include the following:

To bet on a single number, place your Roulette chip directly on top of the number. This is the straight up bet, and pays 35:1. To wager on two numbers (the split bet, 17:1) , put the chip on the line that separates each number (i.e., between 7 and 8 or 7 and 10).

Betting on three numbers (called trio or street), place the chip on the edge of the row of numbers you want to bet. For example, take the chip and put it at the end of the 22, 23, and 24, row (the green section). This pays 11:1.

A corner bet means picking out four numbers (payout 8:1). Lay the chip in the middle of the four, for example, between 26, 27, 29 and 30.

The line bet (5:1) has you betting on six numbers; to do this by putting your chips on the line between the two rows.

You can also make these wagers along with the zero or double zero.

Roulette Outside Bets

Adjacent to the inside bets is the Roulette table layout for the outside bets. You will see the following options: 1-18, odd, red, black, even, 19-36, 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12.

Red, Black, odd and even are self explanatory; the 1 to 18, 19 to 36 etc means wagering one of the numbers those two groups will hit. The 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12 connotes betting any one of those dozen numbers. The column bet has you making a bet on a cluster of a dozen numbers, such as 1 to 10, 13 to 22, etc.

To have better success at Roulette you'll want to try out these different betting options, to see which fits your gaming style best. The more you play the more accustomed to it you'll be, and improve your chances of winning more money.
